We arrived in Rome, Italy on the morning of Saturday, April 4. Because it was the Saturday before Palm Sunday, we knew we needed to go see Vatican City first. We had scheduled a tour of Vatican City with a tour group (http://www.viator.com/) in order to avoid the long lines to get into Vatican City. The tour was well worth it! Our walking tour included the Vatican Museums (including Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms), St Peter's Basilica, and St. Peter's Square. Our tour guide was a recent college graduate from the United States, and she did a great job. We were able to use head-sets so that we could hear her at all times throughout the museum.
The Sistine Chapel was the highlight of our tour, and we were able to snap an "illegal" picture of the famous ceiling. You can also see in some of the pictures of St. Peter's Square that they were preparing for the Pope to address the crowds on Palm Sunday. I also enjoyed going inside St. Peter's Basilica to see one of the Vatican's greatest treasures: Michelangelo's Pietà .
After leaving Vatican City, we walked down the street to take a picture of Vatican City. We ran into Castel Sant'Angelo. We were able to get some great sunset pictures from the bridge in front of Castel Sant'Angelo.
At night, we wanted to see the Trevi Fountain (Fontana dei Trevi), which is when it is supposed to be the most beautiful. Supposedly, if you throw a coin over your left shoulder... you will return to Rome. I think I threw three coins!
