In planning our trip, we had wanted to go to Lucerne, Switzerland. When we got to Italy, we made all of the train reservations for our trip with our EuroRail pass. However, we were not able to book a train reservation from Florence, Italy to Lucerne, Switzerland. We were able to book an overnight train to Bern, Switzerland (which is a train hub in Switzerland). We figured we would make all of our reservations when we got to Bern. We needed to take another overnight train to Paris, France the next day. When we got to Bern, Switzerland all of the trains to Paris, France were at capacity because it was Easter weekend. We were not able to get a train from Lucerne, Switzerland to Paris so we thought we were going to be stuck in Bern.
A nice woman at the train reservation desk said that she could get us on the last train from Geneva, Switzerland to Paris, France (that night), but we would need to commute to Geneva. She said that we had plenty of time to get to Geneva, but she did not know about going to Lucerne for the day. We told her we just wanted to see some "snow-capped" mountains so she suggested we go to Interlaken for a few hours (which was only about a hour train ride away). So....we ended up in Interlaken, Switzerland (a small ski town at the foot of Jungfrau). The town was so pretty! In fact, we want to go back someday! We had about 4 hours in Interlaken. We were able to walk around the town, and we had a nice Swiss lunch of fondue. As you can see from the pictures, the town looks deserted. We figured everyone was skiing at near-by Jungfrau. The train ride to Geneva was beautiful!
